OUR APPROACH

A Brain-Based, Whole-Child Program

IC4K provides an integrative approach based on function and behaviour to assist families of children with developmental, neurological and cognitive challenges. We offer a specific brain-based neurodevelopment program that considers all aspects of child development and behaviour, including biochemistry, genetics, neurodevelopment, emotional regulation, social interaction, sleep management, dietary habits and sensory integration.

OUR CHILDREN'S PROGRAM

An Integrative Program For Children And Families

IC4K is our integrative children’s program, based on function and behaviour, for families of children with developmental, neurological or cognitive challenges. It is a brain-based neurodevelopment program that considers the many aspects of child development and behaviour: biochemistry, genetics, neurodevelopment, emotional regulation, social interaction, sleep, dietary habits and sensory integration.

Our Mission

Our mission is to work alongside clients, parents, caregivers and professionals with timely, comprehensive and well-integrated intervention and educational support, under a family-centred, best-practice framework. We value and respect the rights, responsibilities and aspirations of people of all abilities while promoting maximum inclusion and participation.

Our Allied Health Team

We work with you to communicate your concerns, understand your child’s needs and develop strategies to integrate changes into the daily lives of both you and your child, one step at a time. We offer a space of safety, patience, tolerance and acceptance, where children and their families can feel supported and understood.

What We Consider In Child Development

Our assessment and program design draw on the following areas of child development and behaviour.

Epigenetic Factors

Inherited patterns, genetic susceptibilities, environmental influences, biochemical factors, and gestation and birth history.

Primitive Reflexes

Retained neonatal primitive reflexes, body awareness, and safety and sound integration.

Autonomic Nervous System

The system that regulates body processes such as blood pressure, respiration, digestion, arousal and sleep.

Sleep Health

Sleep routines and patterns, and the role sleep plays in emotional regulation and daily function.

Postural Reflexes

Vestibular, ocular and proprioceptive input; spinal, joint and muscle movement and coordination.

Biochemistry & Nutrition

Metabolic regulation, cellular health, functional medicine and DNA testing where appropriate.

Sensory Integration

Integration of the five senses, interoception and proprioception as a foundation for emotional expression and pattern recognition.

Feelings & Behaviour

Making meaning of emotions, role modelling and emotional regulation.

Sensory-Motor Perception

Understanding spoken words, visual awareness, speech development, hand-eye coordination and auditory integration.

Social Brain & Cognition

Behavioural strategies, learning styles, self-control, body language awareness, understanding social cues and family coaching.

Our Four-Phase Developmental Protocol

We follow a sequential, four-phase developmental program from infancy through to adulthood. Each phase considers five areas: psycho-motor, adaptive behaviour, communication, emotional and social development, and cognition. A multidisciplinary team first assesses function and behaviour, then designs a personalised program for each phase. We also educate parents and educators on personalised learning environments, and our key-worker model provides each family with a personalised plan and an ongoing point of contact.

Phase 1

Physical Safety & Movement

Vestibular, auditory and visual sensory integration, with attention to postural development and control, gross and fine motor coordination, timing and sequencing, body awareness, eye coordination and self-care. Sleep patterns and inherited metabolic factors are also considered.

Phase 2

Emotional Safety & Regulation

A focus on understanding each child’s individual emotional needs and creating emotionally safe environments, with respectful engagement, encouraging language and regular assessment across all domains.

Phase 3

Communication & Learning To Play

A family-centred approach using play-based learning shaped around a child’s interests and natural way of learning, across psycho-motor, emotional, communication, social and cognitive areas.

Phase 4

Social Interaction & Making Choices

A focus on social navigation and decision-making. Children are guided to reflect on choices and experiences, considering context and the feelings of others.

Best-Practice Early Childhood Guidelines

  • Family needs and preferences guide all services.
  • Diversity in families is recognised and respected.
  • Children actively participate in daily life with support.
  • Skill development happens within everyday routines.
  • Families and professionals collaborate at every step.
  • Knowledge and skills are shared with everyone involved.
  • Services are evidence-based and delivered by qualified professionals.

SPECIALIST MODALITIES

How We Support Your Child

The IC4K program draws on several specialist modalities that work together within a single, coordinated care plan.

Behavioural Modification & Family Coaching

Our Social Brain & Interaction protocols focus on brain development and the influence of the social environment on emotional state and behaviour. This approach aims to assist families in understanding each family member's emotional needs through communicative patterns of behaviour and movement. It is grounded in the science of learning and behaviour, identifying a child's learning style, emotional needs and values. Through parent coaching, specific tools and skills are applied to support the child in everyday life, fostering emotional regulation, independence and improved social interaction.

Brain Mapping (QEEG) & Neurotherapy

Using state-of-the-art technology, we employ Quantitative Electroencephalography (QEEG) to create brain maps illustrating the electrical activity of the brain. This is statistically compared to a database of typical brain activity, providing a quantitative indication of differences in brain function. Our QEEG analysis is independently reviewed by an expert team. Where appropriate, Neurofeedback (also called Neurotherapy or EEG biofeedback) is used as a non-invasive way of training the brain to use more productive brainwave patterns, strengthening neural pathways and increasing mental endurance and flexibility. Neurotherapy is accompanied by functional brain exercises, other relevant treatments and nutritional support to optimise brain health.

Functional Neurology & Postural Rehabilitation

Our postural and functional neurology program integrates practices from functional neurology, occupational therapy, vision therapy and cutting-edge digital technology. It is designed to support individuals facing neurodevelopmental challenges. Areas of the brain involved in movement, including the cerebellum, basal ganglion, thalamus and prefrontal cortex, also play roles in cognition and emotional integration. The program addresses retained primitive reflexes and movement patterns through MNRI therapy, photobiomodulation and coordinated rehabilitation exercises, with the goal of improving learning behaviour, attention, focus, coordination and emotional regulation.
